Second Life Encourages Avatars to ‘Find us on Facebook’

No wonder Second Life avatars are flocking over to Facebook with their fake names even though the Facebook rules say that they have to use their real names:

Facebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way. Here are some commitments you make to us relating to registering and maintaining the security of your account:

Here is a snapshot taken on today so you  know the rules haven’t changed since this blog started:

So you can visit the Second LifeFan page on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/secondlife The question is what does Second Life (Linden Lab) want? Do they want Second Life to remain a anonymous playground or do they want people who use Second Life to be more transparent with their identity? Can they have it both ways? Is Facebook going to keep bending the rules for these bright stars?

The facts is that Facebook does not allow convicted sex offenders to use Facebook. How would we know if any of these avatars are sex offenders or under the age of 13 for that matter? They aren’t using their real names and that makes it kind of hard to look them up in any sex offender registry database! There are people who have been banned from Second Life who were caught having pixel sex with other avatars who were pretending to be young children. Are these the people you want friending you on Facebook?

So let Second Life make their ads inviting their fake names over to Facebook! Report every last one of them that you see!
