Jumpman Lane: King of Fake Followers

One of the biggest and most obvious reasons to not get involved in Second Life is the deceptive nature of many people you encounter. One of those trick people is a clown who calls himself “Jumpman Lane”. He wants everyone to think of him as “The King of Second Life”. That’s his self given title which is to anyone who’s read his tweets….laughable.

What is a King exactly? Let’s look at some official definitions from Google.

The male ruler of an independent state, esp. one who inherits the position by right of birth
– King Henry VIII

Jumpman isn’t the son of Philip, is he? this definite doesn’t apply then. He doesn’t rule anything at all and he hasn’t inherited Linden Lab from any last will and testament that I know of.

A person or thing regarded as the finest or most important in its sphere or group
– a country where football is king
– the king of rock

I think Jumpman Lane THINKS he is the finest or most important person in SL. That might be the only explanation for it. When you’re so withdrawn from real life and so emerged in a virtual world I guess it’s easy to become this deluded.

A chess piece, checker, or playing card would be another good explanation for Jumpman Lane referring to him self a “King”. He’s certainly a tool to say the least. Whoever he is, he allowed his self to be used (or used the persona of Jumpman Lane) to perpetrate a flaming idiot.

Jumpman Lane is no King in the royal sense of the word. He has no kingdom. He had no crowning ceremony. I’m willing to bet the whole “Stroker vs Jumpman” made for late night television re-run drama is a staged publicity stunt too. He doesn’t have any subjects. He doesn’t even have any followers! He bickers back and forth on Twitter with the same two people about nothing just so he can have his bad boy image while calling names and throwing insults formed with forced bad grammar. It looks like he has over 4000 followers but how many of those Twitter accounts actually pay attention to anything he has to say and didn’t come from youlikehits.com?

I suspected Jumpman Lane was using a social boosting service when I saw his followers jump 200 in less than an hour around the beginning of January. So I did some research and found a few sites that let you sign up and link your Twitter account. You follow other Twitter accounts and earn points. You offer the points you earned to other people for following you. The more points you earn then the more points you have to offer. You can also buy points. So I created a test account on youlikehits.com. After I followed about two pages of Twitter accounts guess who popped up on the next page!

There’s lots of things you can fake in Second Life. You can fake your sex, age, voice, sexual preference, marital status, financial status, physical appearance, and probably a whole lot more. But it’s a lot harder to fake being important. It’s not as easy to make other people think you are important when you don’t have anything to contribute but a played out cartoon porn internet magazine. You have to have backup. You have to have other avatars bowing down to you. It can be faked with alternate accounts and groups very easily. But you still need a audience. I am guessing that Jumpman Lane couldn’t get that audience to listen to his alts go back and forth in chat. So hes using Twitter as a stage for his show. The more followers it looks like he has then maybe the more people will think he’s important. That and his self given title of “The king of SL”.

Jumpman Lane uses youlikehits.com to give the illusion that he has a multitude of followers. He wants everyone to believe he’s important. He wants you to think that there are people who clicked the follow button because they found someone interesting or thought he had something valuable to say. No. Sorry to disappoint. Jumpman Lane is not the King of Twitter or Facebook, and especially not the King of Second Life.
